10th APFSD: Side Event on Building Accessible and Inclusive Cities and Communities in Asia and the Pacific
This side event is being organised by ESCAP Social Development Division and UN-Habitat in cooperation with the Ministry of National Development Planning, Indonesia during the 10th Session of Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) in Bangkok. Only in-person participation is available.

About the Event
The lack of physical and digital accessibility in cities and communities often hinders persons with disabilities from living independently and with dignity. There is an urgent need to build accessible and inclusive cities and communities that support more adequate and equitable work-life-play-learn opportunities for all and eliminate intersectional marginalization and discrimination experienced by persons with disabilities. The Jakarta Declaration on the Asian and Pacific Decade of Persons with Disabilities, 2023-2032, provides a strong impetus for realizing accessibility and accelerating inclusive and sustainable development, with persons with disabilities and their representative organizations playing a central role. The side event will bring together policymakers, organizations of persons with disabilities and development partners to share promising practices and innovative solutions concerning the development of accessible and inclusive cities and communities. It will enrich the discussion on SDG 11 on sustainable cities and communities and contribute to SDG 6 on water and sanitation for all and SDG 17 on partnership for sustainable development. About APFSD
The Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) is an annual, inclusive intergovernmental forum to support follow-up and review of progress on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the regional level, while serving as a regional preparatory meeting to the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF). The Forum provides a regional perspective on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by identifying regional trends and sharing best practices and lessons learned. Since its inaugural session in 2014, the APFSD has brought governments, civil society, the private sector, and other stakeholders together to prepare for the HLPF and to support regional efforts to accelerate the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
The 10th APFSD will be organized from 27-30 March 2023 under the theme “Accelerating the recovery from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels in Asia and the Pacific” in Bangkok, at the United Nations Conference Center (UNCC).
