Safe, Sustainable and Inclusive Mobility

1000–1130 hrs | | Hall: Tactic 1 & 2

Mobility in Asian cities is a complex issue that is influenced by a variety of factors, including urbanisation, population growth, economic development, and technological advancements. Many cities in Asia are experiencing rapid urbanisation, which has led to an increase in the number of people living in cities and a corresponding increase in the demand for transportation. At the same time, many cities in Asia are facing challenges related to aging infrastructure, traffic congestion, air pollution, and road safety.

To address these challenges, cities in Asia are adopting a range of strategies to improve mobility, including investing in public transportation, promoting non-motorized transportation options, such as walking and cycling, and implementing new technologies, such as smart traffic management systems and electric vehicles. One of the key challenges facing cities in Asia is the lack of safe, sustainable and Inclusive Mobility. Safe, Sustainable and an Inclusive Mobility is a crucial requirement for accessibility and, in turn, for socio-economic growth. Jobs and education, as well as other social and cultural services, can only be delivered equitably across a society when everyone has the mobility to easily access these essential facets of well-being. Safe and inclusive mobility can have a domino effect towards enhancing an inclusive society that leaves no one behind. States and local authorities must not fail to address the needs of persons with disabilities to enjoy their right to the city. Urban think tanks, collectives, sector experts and institutions working actively towards transport and mobility sector are the key agents in creating an enabling mobility environment through timely and effective knowledge and project management skills to deal with everyday growing mobility challenges.

To discuss more about the safe, sustainable and inclusive mobility ecosystem and on the initiatives taken by Indian and Asian cities, All India Institute of Local Self Government in collaboration with UCLG ASPAC is jointly hosting the session titled “Safe Sustainable and Inclusive Mobility” on 7th April, 2023 at 10:00 A.M
